Lucy A. Shughart, 55, passed away in peace in the early afternoon hours of Thursday, July 1, 2010 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Lucy was born in Brunswick, Maine, and graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1974. Lucy was truly a loving and wonderful wife, a fantastic and devoted mother and homemaker. Lucy enjoyed traveling and “seeing the sights.” But most of all, Lucy enjoyed being with family. Lucy was also a dedicated Navy wife and was a very patriotic person with one of her favorite days of the year being the Fourth of July. She never wavered in her love and respect for the United States of America and the American flag.

Lucy is preceded in death by her father, Comdr. Herbert A. Hemann, U.S. Navy (retired), and her brother, Herbert A. Hemann Jr.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Jo Hemann of Colorado Springs; her husband, Robert C. Shughart, U. S. Navy (retired) of Colorado Springs; her three children, Angela Byrne (Brendan) of Arvada, Colo., Nicholle Shughart of Colorado Springs and Mary Swedhin (Bryan) of Colorado Springs; and four sisters and a brother, Mary Beth Forst (Tom) and Susan K. Bann (Jim) of Monument, Colo., Deborah J. Brun of Newport, N.C., Brenda J. Haggarty (Mike) of Redmond, and Michael J. Hemann (Tracy) of Colorado Springs; and three grandchildren, Hunter, Savannah and Hailey.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Colorado Springs on Thursday, July 8, at 10:30 a.m. with services to be announced at a future date at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lucy’s name to St. Paul Catholic Church at 9 El Pomar Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
