M. Juanita Roberson

M. Juanita Roberson died at Whidbey General Hospital, Coupeville on May 8, 2007 at the age of 102. She was born July 5, 1904 near Mount Vernon, Ill., to Homer and Sadie (McLaughlin) Piper.

Juanita was one of five children in the Piper family raised on an 80-acre farm near Mount Vernon. Juanita attended school for 12 years in a one-room schoolhouse. After graduation she attended business school for one year.

Juanita was married to George L. Roberson and they moved to Indianapolis, Ind. From that marriage, three sons were born. In 1947, George passed away and, in 1949, Juanita moved to Phoenix, Ariz. She spent the next 16 years working as a bookkeeper for the International Metal Products Division of the McGraw Edison Company. In 1982, Juanita moved to Oak Harbor to live near her son, Durward.

Juanita enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting, bookkeeping and playing the piano. Most of all, she enjoyed being a mother.

She is survived by her three sons, Durward Roberson of Oak Harbor, Merle Roberson of Fredericksburg, Va., and Robert Roberson of Merrick, Long Island, N.Y.; and by one sister, Elna Pein of Oak Harbor. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Juanita requested no formal funeral services. Cremation was held with private family burial to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
