Ronald Francis Fillion

Ronald Francis Fillion, 80, passed away in his sleep at his home in Mount Vernon, Dec. 18, 2003. He was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Escanaba, Mich., to Emmanuel V. and Florence Fillion. He joined the Navy on Jan. 9, 1941, and served 20 years, retiring in May of 1962. He married Eveline Mary Goodwin on June 11, 1944 in Aiea, Hawaii.

While serving in the Navy during World War II he was stationed on the U.S.S. Mississippi in the North Atlantic and South Pacific. After Ron’s career in the Navy he settled in central California with his wife and six children, selling real estate until 1967. Ron and Eveline moved the family to Sagle, Idaho, where he built a new home and enjoyed the retired life of fishing, hunting and gardening.

From 1976 to 1992, Oak Harbor was their new home, with the joys of fishing and crabbing. Ron and Eveline made their final home in Mount Vernon where Ron passed away peacefully at the Mountain Glen Retirement Center.

Ron was a devout Catholic and devoted husband and father. Ron is survived by his six children, Robert L. (Patricia) Fillion of Mount Vernon, Pearl A. (Douglas) Robertson of Midland, Mich., Glenn J. (Annette) Fillion of Houston, Donna J. (Daniel) Deshon of Sandpoint, Idaho, Marie A. (Michael) Dunn of Seattle, Christina D. (Darrell) Gillette of Tucson, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a brother, Robert (Ardelle) Fillion of Sheboygan, Wis. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eveline of 54 years, his parents and one brother, Gerald F. Fillion.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Edmonds. Mass was held Dec. 20 at Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls, Idaho, officiated by Father Summers. Funeral arrangements were made by Kern Funeral Home in Mount Vernon and Coffelt Funeral Services in Sandpoint, Idaho. Internment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.
