Madeline Perry Lang died June 7, 2008, from complications following surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center, in Seattle.
She was born March 6, 1932, in Seattle, to Admiral John Perry and Madeline (Gleason) Perry. Upon graduation from Oak Harbor High School in 1950, she attended Mary C. Wheeler College in Providence, R.I., and later married her high school sweetheart, Richard “Bunk” Lang, on Dec. 4, 1951, in Thomasville, Ga. The Langs enjoyed 48 years of marriage. Her husband preceded her in death on March 16, 2000.
Mrs. Lang was an active volunteer throughout her life. While living in Manson, Wash., from 1959-1967 and again from 1976-1981, she was active in P.E.O., Camp Fire Girls, the Manson Apple Blossom Festival, the Manson School District, Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Chelan, and a variety of community organizations.
While living in Port Angeles, from 1968-1976 and again from 1981 until her death, Mrs. Lang continued to be an active volunteer and worked as a private secretary and in retail for many years. In addition to Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Port Angeles, Mrs. Lang was involved in numerous organizations, including P.E.O., the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, the OMC Hospital Auxiliary, and the Port Angeles Senior Center.
Madeline was known for her strong faith and her love of family, friends, traveling, and entertaining. Mrs. Lang is survived by her daughters Madeline “Midge” Francis of Williamson, Ga., Pam Rubright of Federal Way, Susie Knudson of Port Angeles, and Joni Eades of Eatonville; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at the Port Angeles Senior Center at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, followed by a reception in celebration of Madeline’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, 2105 West Highway 101, Port Angeles, WA 98363.
