Goldie Garnet Fuhrman Grissom died Dec. 13, 2006 at Life Care Center, Sedro-Woolley, at the age of 82. She was born March 21 1924 in Wapato, Wash., to Fredrick J. and Helen (Hinkle) Fuhrman. Goldie was one of 13 children.

She moved with her family to Oak Harbor in the early 1930s and she attended Oak Harbor High School. Goldie was married to Alfred M. Deach, but that marriage ended in divorce in 1948. She was married to Chester Grissom in Tacoma in 1951. Chester was a career military man and he and Goldie were assigned to duty stations in Kodiak, Alaska, Massachusetts, Renton, Seattle and Fort Lewis.

Chester was retired from active duty and the Grissoms made Massachusetts their home. Goldie worked as manager of the Army-Air Force Exchange Services, retiring in 1980. Following retirement, Goldie and Chester moved to Oak Harbor. Chester preceded her in death. Goldie will be fondly remembered for her feisty attitude.

Goldie is survived by her son Wilbur “Bill” Grissom and his wife Gabriela “Gabi” of Burlington; by one sister, Willabelle Christenson of California; and by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private burial was held at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 23, at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor. Memorials may be made to Life Care Center of Sedro-Woolley. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
