Harvey Goehring

Harvey Goehring lost his battle with cancer; he put up a good fight and went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 12, 2011.

Harvey was born in Lowry, S.D., on May 29, 1933, to Theodore and Caroline Goehring. The family moved to Moses Lake, Wash., in 1942. Harvey, or Bo, as known to many, joined the Navy in 1952. Attending school in Jacksonville, Fla., he met and married the love of his life, Bernadine (Bernie). After being stationed all over the country and having five children, they settled in Oak Harbor.

Harvey retired from the Navy in 1974 as AKC Chief Petty Officer and then went on to retire from Grumman Aerospace. Harvey was a volunteer fireman, a member of the San Juanderers RV club and volunteered at the pharmacy on NAS Whidbey Island. He loved to hunt, fish, RV, play pinochle and spend time with his cute loving poodle, Heidi. Harvey was an active member of the Lutheran Church for many years. Harvey was very loving and giving. He was loved by the people who knew him. He will be missed very much.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Kelli Behrend, and his sister Lila Hear. He is survived by his wife Bernadine and four children, Steve Goehring of Tacoma, Mary Langstaff and husband Tim of Mulvane, Kan., Ted Goehring of Oak Harbor and David Goehring and wife Robyn of Nappanee, Ind., seven grandchildren, Michelle Behrend, Gabrielle Lynn Goehring, Jeremiah Langstaff, Christopher Langstaff, Joshua Langstaff, Camryn Cook and Evan Cook; one great-granddaughter, Kyliana Behrend; two sisters, Jenny Lee Angelini and Sharon Goehring, many nieces and nephews; and two aunts, 90-plus years of age living in South Dakota.
