Mary Yake

Mary Etta Yake passed away May 24, 2006 in Everett. She was born Feb. 4 1925 in the rural farming community of Bedford, Iowa. She was the fourth of five children born to Callie and Marion Matheny. Mary was a loving wife, caring mother, proud grandmother and dedicated friend. Mary lived in Oak Harbor for the past 20 years of her life and made numerous friends.
Mary is survived by her husband Walter Yake; her brother Arthur Matheny of Bedford, Iowa; by three children, Patricia Ek of Lincoln, Neb., David Ek (Mishele) of Vienna, Austria, and William Ek (Delores) of San Bernadino, Calif.; and six stepchildren, James Yake (Peggy) of Bellingham, Margaret Wilkett (Ray) of Blaine, Marilynn Laypath (Richard) of Orem, Utah, Barbara Lee (John) of Sequim, Mary Frost (Michael) of Coupeville, and Steven Yake of Silverdale. Her first husband preceded her in death, as did one son Michael Ek and one stepson Richard Yake.
Funeral services were held June 1 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Oak Harbor. Her body was laid to rest at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Mary was beloved by all and will be greatly missed. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
