Anna Waitkus Frostad Millard went to be with our Lord on Nov. 24, 2008 in Oak Harbor. She was the third child of Alex and Annie Waitkus, born Aug. 25, 1910 in Springfield, Ill. Anna was nine years old in 1919 when the family moved to Whidbey Island, northeast of Oak Harbor, to the farm on the corner of Sleeper and Taylor roads. She attended the Oak Harbor schools through the eighth grade. Her younger sister, Alice, was born here in Oak Harbor in November 1920.
Anna was a contestant in the popularity contest to select the Oak Harbor Princess during the first North Pacific Fair in the summer of 1929. That summer she married Peter Frostad. They lived several years in Oak Harbor, where Peter was the butter maker at the old Oak Harbor Creamery. They later moved to Everett in the early 40’s. She and Peter separated. Anna went to work at the Everett Yacht Club where she met Chef Frank Millard. They were married Dec. 21, 1946. She was widowed in 1967. In her later years Anna moved back to Oak Harbor in July of 1998, joining her sister Mary at the North Whidbey Adult Family Home on Cerullo Drive.
Preceding her in death were her brother, Stanley Waitkus and sisters, Mary DeVries of Oak Harbor, and Alice Waitkus Brewton. Anna is survived by her loving nieces: Caroline Williams of Oak Harbor, Betty Yeo of Seattle, and Mary Waitkus Boulton of Lummi Island.
A graveside service will take place Friday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way.
