Jack Leonard Hansen, 88, died Jan. 1, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born June 2, 1923 in Ballard, WA to Hagbart and Margrethe Hansen.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Henry and Leif, sisters Mabel, Helen and Corrine. He was a proud World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard.

He married Lois Jensen on Dec. 12, 1953 and together they lived and raised their family in North Seattle. Jack worked on construction projects such as the Alaska Way Viaduct, was a skilled shipwright as was his father and a commercial fisherman.

In 1977, he started Salmon Bay Boatyard, a successful boat repair and haul out business where the coffeepot was always on and conversations colorful. Retiring in 1995, he and his wife moved to Whidbey Island.

Jack is survived by his wife Lois; a sister, Helen Nickolsen, daughters Lorraine and Christine Hansen, Jacque Baldwin, seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. His family loved him dearly, admired his strengths and will miss his love, wisdom and support. There will be a private service. Remembrances can be made to Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial or a charity of your choice.
