Marge (Leavell) Ronhaar, 70, died suddenly at Providence General Hospital July 21, 2004. She was born in Jasmin, Saskatchewan, Canada, July 22, 1933, to Thomas and Amanda Beaulieu.
Marge first came to Oak Harbor in 1952 as the bride of John S. Leavell, residing here until 1956. She moved away for a short time while following her husband’s military career. They returned to Oak Harbor in 1960. Mr. Leavell died Oct. 23, 1972. March 29, 1974, Marge married Daniel E. Ronhaar and Oak Harbor has remained their home.
Marge had been employed with Everett Trust and Savings Bank as a teller and then was employed with Patrick, Zylstra, and Pitt, Attorneys at Law, as a receptionist and bookkeeper. She then was employed with the Koetje Insurance Agency as an administrative assistant until her retirement.
Marge was an extremely active member of First Reformed Church. She lived out her faith by turning strangers into close friends. Her pew always had room for a new visitor and her home was always open to new families. One of the joys of her involvement with the “Porch Visit Ministry” was welcoming newcomers with baked goods.
Marge passionately lived every day. She enjoyed the simple things in life — traveling, being with family and friends, entertaining, gardening and a good cup of coffee.
In addition to her church, the other love of her life was her family. She is survived by her husband, Daniel E. Ronhaar of Oak Harbor; one daughter, Dona Rientjes and her husband, Dan, of Oak Harbor; two sons, John Thomas Leavell of Terrell, Texas, and David Wayne Leavell of Miami Shores, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Sophia M. Leavell, Doug Rientjes, and John Rientjes and his fiancee, Leighla Andrews. She is also survived by one brother, Tom Beaulieu of Vancouver, B.C., and by one sister, Iris Stover of Surrey, B.C.
Memorial services will be held at First Reformed Church, Oak Harbor, Sunday, July 25, at 4 p.m., with Pastor Jon Brown officiating. Remembrances may be made to First Reformed Church’s Memorial Fund. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
