Published April 26, 2008
Barbara “Bobbie” Lou Stevens was born July 6, 1930, in Coupeville to William Lester Morris and Esther (Libbey) Morris. She died April 26, 2008, at Providence Everett Medical Center.
After having moved away for many years, Barbara returned to Coupeville for good in the late 1980s. While living in Lake Tahoe, Nev., she worked in real estate and continued that career at Windermere/Center Isle Realty until retiring in the mid 1990s.
Barbara was a voracious reader, often finishing a book a day. She loved animals and took great interest in animal welfare issues and donated to various organizations for both domestic and wild animals. In the past, she had volunteered at the Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Fund (WAIF), and over the years had rescued and adopted many cats and dogs. Barbara thoroughly enjoyed her trips with her friend Sandra Dubpernell, which included a safari in Africa; whale watching in Baja, Mexico; polar bear encounters in Manitoba, Canada; a wildlife safari in Oregon; visiting best friends in Utah, and many other local and exotic places.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Connie Patmore-Farr; sons Bill and Jim Patmore; grandsons Will, Jim and Tyler Patmore; step-grandaugher Nicole Stevens; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Dee Morris; and nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Walter Patmore and Donald L. Stevens; son Donald V. (Steve) Stevens, and stepson Gregory Stevens.
For remembrances, please consider making a donation in Barbara’s name to an animal welfare organization of your choice.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 17, from 3 to 6 p.m. in Harrington Hall at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Coupeville.
