Rob Edwards
Published May 14, 2008
Our hero, Rob Edwards, went to a better place May 14, 2008, after losing his battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife Faye; son Roger Edwards; daughter Sue Andersen; and step-sons Ken, Dave, Kevin, and Chris Burkhardt and their families.
Born in Los Angeles in 1921 to Ralph and Laura Edwards, he grew up in Manhattan Beach, Calif. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he joined the Marine Corps and began a successful military career. He moved quickly up the ranks from PFC to officer due to his intelligence and dedication.
He married Marolyn (Mike) Youmans in 1944 and enjoyed nearly 60 years together until her death in 2004.
Rob’s beautiful yard reflects his love of gardening and his care for the birds and wild creatures.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of three years, who lovingly cared for him during his illness, and by his friends, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids…and by his Sassy cat.
Many thanks to the wonderful nurses of Hospice who helped us through this process.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Oak Harbor on Friday, June 6, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the cancer society of choice.
Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor is in charge of arrangements.
