Max Linden Edwards Jr.

Max Linden Edwards, Jr., 72, died Nov. 1, 2003, at Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville. He was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Avery County, N.C., to Max L. Edwards, Sr. and Captola (Tiny) Stanberry-Edwards.

Max moved to Portland, Ore., in the late 1950’s after serving with the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Owens Illinois Glass Company and in 1969, moved to Seattle, where he worked for Northwestern Glass. He continued working for them until retirement at the age of 65.

He was married to Vonnie Sterhan in Tacoma on April 15, 1971.

Max and Vonnie lived in Maple Valley for many years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, playing pool, reading, traveling and watching sports, especially baseball.

Max was known as a quiet, smart man with the ability to stay calm under any circumstances. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Although he was a military history buff and general trivia guru, he was most proud of being a good dad and an understanding grandpa.

Max is survived by his wife Vonnie at the family home, Oak Harbor; by two children, Robert Edwards and wife Judi of Marysville, and Robin Ellert of Savannah, Ga. He is survived by four brothers, David Denver Edwards and wife Linda of Vancouver; William Bruce Edwards and wife Pat of Portland, Ore.; Robert Allen Barnes and wife Pat of Chesapeake, Va., and Veldon Brent Edwards of Portland, Ore. Three grandchildren, Robert Edward Edwards, Jr. and Sherrie Lynn Edwards, both of Marysville, and Mystery Glenora Ellert of Savannah, Ga., will miss him dearly.

Max requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society in his name. Arrangements areby Burley Funeral Chapel.
