Francis Romain Peetermans

Francis Romain Peetermans, age 59, of Coupeville, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011.

Francis was born Dec. 16, 1951, in Wilrijk, Belgium, to Jos Peetermans and Marie Louise Schewijck. He lived his early years in Belgium where he excelled in swimming and water polo. He served in the Belgian Navy. On Nov. 13, 1981, he married Carol Humphries in Ossendrecht, Holland. The couple resided in the Netherlands for eight years during which time their three children were born.

Francis was employed as a chemical plant supervisor. In 1988 they moved to the U.S. and lived in Big Bear City, Calif., LaPorte, Co., and Dillon, Co., before settling in Coupeville in 2001. Francis had owned a construction company, and then a garage door sales and service business. He enjoyed photography, drawing, traveling, cooking, walking and most especially his grandchildren.

Francis is survived by his wife Carol; his three children, David Peetermans of La Coruna, Spain, Michael Peetermans of Edmonds and Lauren Garcia (Daniel) of San Diego; two grandchildren, Caesar and Romain Garcia; his father, Jos Peetermans; and one sister, Chris Peetermans of Belgium. He was preceded in death by his mother and by his brother-in-law, Luc Van Frausum.

An open house memorial gathering was held on Saturday, Aug. 20 at the family home. Arrangements are with the assistance of Whidbey Memorial Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc.
