Leland Harlan, Sr.

Leland Harlan, 61, died Sept. 12, 2006 at Whidbey General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 21, 1945 to Leon and Goldie Harlan in Tuttle, Oklahoma.

Leland moved to California when he was seven years old and joined the US Navy in 1964. He served a total of four years as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Hancock (CVA-19) including tours in Vietnam. He was proud of his service to his country.

Leland was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Navy and was a service technician for Wards, Sears and others for over 30 years in the Modesto and Keyes, Calif., area.

In 1972 Leland married Nancy Woodard and together they raised a wonderful family. Family was everything to him.

Leland is survived by his wife of 34 years, along with his daughter Shelly Boughner with husband Joseph of West Virginia and sons Rick Burns and Leland Harlan, Jr., with wife Chelsy, all of Oak Harbor; his brothers Don Harlan of Delaware, Wayne Harlan with wife Donna of Keyes, Calif., Daryl Harlan of Ceres, Calif., and Wendell Garrett with wife Shannon of Sacramento; and daughters Bradina Garrett and Debra Garrett, both of Ceres, Calif.

Leland also leaves five grandchildren: Devinn Couch, Derrick Couch, Brandy Boughner, Jessica Burns and Austin Harlan and one great granddaughter MaKenzie Couch.

A private family inurnment and service is planned with full military honors to be rendered on the grounds of Burley Funeral Chapel Saturday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m.
