George Ray Reeves

George Reeves, 62, died July 12, 2010, at Whidbey General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 3, 1948, in Hollywood, Calif., and raised by his mother and adoptive father, James and Nancy Reeves in Las Vegas.

After graduating from high school in Las Vegas, George and family moved to Sultan, Wash. George joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for 13 years, and then went to work in the Civil Service at NAS Whidbey where he worked in the Supply and Data Processing (IT) Departments and at NOPF (IT) for more than 20 years.

On May 10, 1974, George married Joan Heller of Oak Harbor at the chapel at NAS Whidbey, and for the past 36 years they carved out a wonderful life together.

George loved the Boy Scouts. George and Joan spent many years working with the scouts of the area where he was a scoutmaster for Troup 92 for several years. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow and enjoyed camping and teaching the scouts how to be better citizens and how to get along in the wild.

George also loved cars, which was evidenced by his membership and participation with the Whidbey Cruzers. He loved to attend the monthly meetings, the weekly gatherings for pizza and could often be found at car shows around the Northwest. The Cruzers will miss him.

George was active on Facebook and enjoyed keeping up with his friends in Las Vegas, as well as staying in touch with such people as Jessica Watson from Australia, the young teen who single handedly sailed around the world. He was always very supportive of her and many others. His earlier interests were model military tanks, airplanes, archery and motorcycles.

George is survived by his wife Joan and son Brady at the family home, along with sisters Ruth Fletcher of Lake Stevens, Susan Roesler (Craig) of Sultan, Mary Mason (Fred) of Monroe and Barb Hughes (Eric) of Everett. The one who will probably miss George terribly is his little dog “Sunny” who went with him everywhere.

Memorial services will be held for George at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge on Wednesday, July 21, at 2 p.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel where family and friends may go online at www.burleyfuneralchapel.com to sign a guest register and leave comments for the family.
