Glenn M. Bonham

Glenn M. Bonham, 90, of Oak Harbor, a kind, gentle and caring man, passed away July 13, 2006 at Harborview Hospital in Seattle. He and his son-in-law, Jim Siggens, also from Oak Harbor, were flown there from the scene of a tragic automobile accident in Oak Harbor. Jim Siggens, thankfully, survived the crash.

Glenn was born in Cloverdale, Calif., and spent most of his life there. He was well known for his work as a gunsmith, artist and wonderful handyman. “Glenn could fix anything,” it had been said on more than one occasion. He was an accomplished painter, focusing on the Old West, still lifes and family portraits. He owned and operated Glenn’s Rifle Shop in Cloverdale where he honed the craft of carving ornate gun stocks and used that knowledge creating custom tools for Lasercraft. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends at the Mt. Baker Rifle Club even though he was a “lousy shot.”

He married his long-time friend, Helen Carnes after the death of his first wife, Barbara. Glenn leaves his wife, Helen; daughters, Claudia Bonham of Tomales, Calif., and Cori Siggens and husband Jim of Oak Harbor; son, Gary Benson and wife Nancy of Boulder, Colo.; sister, Geraldine Borri and Husband Joe of Healdsburg, Calif.; brother-in-law, Carlton Proschold of Geyserville, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and many nieces, nephews and good friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 28, at Triumph Lutheran Church, 5719 Church Road, Ferndale, Wash., at 3 p.m. officiated by his friend, Pastor David Hustoft. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, 350 Los Ranchitos Road, San Rafael, CA 94913. Arrangements under the care of Jerns Funeral Chapel in Bellingham.
