Lucy Lundquist

Lucy M. Lundquist, 102, of Freeland, died Feb. 24, 2009, in her home surrounded by loved ones. A celebration of life will be held at the Whidbey Evangelical Free Church in Greenback, on Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m.

Born in Tacoma on May 26, 1906, to Arthur and Carrie Dennis, Lucy spent her childhood being raised on Fox Island, where she met and married her husband Lloyd Lundquist in 1936. Mrs. Lundquist and her family then moved to Whidbey Island in 1956, and she lived here for over 50 years.

Mrs. Lundquist received her teaching certificate and was a school teacher for Langley Middle School from 1956 to 1972. Lucy loved teaching, and is fondly remembered by parents and students alike. She was an active member of her church, and enjoyed her special time with her pastor, Dick Jeffers. She enjoyed Bible study with “The Old Dollies,” needlepoint, knitting and sewing. She will always be remembered by her warmth, and great sense of humor; and her love of Jesus!

She is proceed in death by her husband Lloyd Lundquist, sister Elizabeth Fisher, brother Irving Lundquist, and oldest son, Dennis Lundquist.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Turner of Freeland; son David Lundquist of Coupeville; son Gerry Lundquist and his wife Judy, Idaho; daughter-in-law Dorothy Lundquist of Orcas Island; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grand children; one niece; and two nephews.

Visser Funeral Home in Langley is in care of arrangements.
