Lilbourne Spencer ‘Mac’ McPeters
L.S. “Mac” McPeters of Coupeville died of heart disease on June 5, 2006. He was 77.
Mr. McPeters was born Oct. 17, 1928 in Ashland, Va., to Douglas and Josephine (Randolph) McPeters. He graduated from Lambertville (New Jersey) High School in 1949, where he was voted “best looking” in his class. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Larison, on July 28, 1950 in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Mr. McPeters joined the Navy on April 11, 1948 and served for 20 years. He retired as a Chief Aviation Electrician’s Mate from Whidbey Island NAS on Jan. 2, 1968. During his military service he received numerous awards including five Good Conduct Awards and a Citation for Meritorious Achievement for his service on the USS Coral Sea.
“Mac” was a skilled and avid outdoorsman whose hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and U.S. history. He traveled widely during his military service but found his true home in the Northwest.
Mr. McPeters was preceded in death by his wife Margaret who died April 1, 1992. He is survived by his brother Ray McPeters; two daughters, Linda Stumbaugh and Deborah McPeters; his son Thomas McPeters; his grandchildren Brandi Stevens, Britany McPeters and Brian McPeters; and his great grandson, Cole Stevens. Mr. McPeters’ children wish to acknowledge the love, friendship and generosity of his long-time companion Sandra Martenson of Oak Harbor.
A celebration of Mac’s life will be held Saturday, June 24 at 12 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Senior Center, 51 S.E. Jerome, Oak Harbor. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
