Kenneth J. Overdiek

Kenneth Overdiek, 88, died Jan. 28, 2010, at the Regency Harbor Care Unit in Oak Harbor. He was born June 17, 1921, in Hopkins, Minn., to William O. and Agnes Aubrecht Overdiek.

Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1943, ultimately completed his aviation cadet training and went on to enter Officer’s Candidate School and graduated as a pilot and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander prior to his retirement in 1971. He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam during his career, retiring at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. He not only was a naval aviator, but he obtained his commercial license as well.

He married Marian DeBee Overdiek in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Aug. 26, 1944.

Kenneth is survived by his sisters Dorothy Erickson of New Hope, Minn., and Shirley Thompson of St. Anthony, Minn.; as well as numerous nephews and nieces, including his niece Diane Wuertemburg of Oak Harbor.

A memorial service and gathering of friends will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
