Juliette Wallace

Major Juliette C. Wallace, US Army Nurses Corp (retired), 96, 18-year resident of Oak Harbor, died peacefully in her sleep at Whidbey Island Manor Valentines Day, Feb. 14, 2004.
Major Wallace was born in Clearfield, Pa., Oct. 5, 1907, to Bishop Leslie and Louise Moore Wallace. The family moved to Wynnewood, Pa., when she was 15. She graduated from Mater Misericordia Academy in Merion, Pa., and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia.
During World War II, Major Wallace was stationed in England with the Army Nurses Corps and was recalled during the Korean Conflict to serve at Fort Polk, La. After her discharge from the Army, she worked at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Southern California and later became superintendent of nurses at the Little Hospital of Mary in Torrance, Calif. In 1986 Judy (as she was known to her friends) moved to Oak Harbor, where she enjoyed her later years of retirement.
Juliette never married, but had a close relationship with her immediate family. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia C. Wallace of Oak Harbor; two nieces, Mary LaClair Riordan of Crofton, Md., and Juliette L. Wallace of Hopewell, Va.; nephew Andrew E. Wallace and wife Kathy of Fairfax, Va., and their daughter Jaime; also, a great-nephew, Scott LaClair Nelson of Park City, Utah. Juliette was preceded in death by her brother, B. Leslie Wallace in 1991 and her sister, Jane Wallace LaClair in 1966.
A graveside service will be Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Clearfield, Pa. Memorials may be made to Help House or charity of choice.
