Laverne J. Roomes, 69, died at Highline Community Hospital in Burien. Jan. 1, 2004. She was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Erie, Mich., to Lavern and Gertude Bellair. Laverne graduated from college with a degree in teaching and worked as an executive secretary in several different businesses. She and her husband John moved to Whidbey Island about three years ago. Laverne was a member of Oak Harbor United Methodist Church and active in the Women’s Auxillary. She also enjoyed many bridge circles

Laverne is survived by her husband, John of Oak Harbor; sons, Scott of Sidney, Ohio, David of Renton and Brian of Highland Heights, Ky.; sisters, Donna Hatzidakis of Toledo, Ohio and Sherry Rufty of Newport Richey, Fla.

Garveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 9, at 10 a.m. in Sunnyside Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. in First United Methodist Church in Oak Harbor. Arrangements by Burley Funeral Chapel.
