Personal records were the recipe of the day for North Whidbey Aquatic Club members at the Pacific Northwest Swimming Summer Grand Challenge July 16 and 17 in Federal Way.

“The meet serves a season-ending championship meet of sorts for non-PNS Championship qualifiers, as well as a last-chance meet for champs qualifiers to add additional events in which they have yet to achieve the QT,” NWAC coach Dick Taylor said.

All 12 Blue Heron set lifetime bests during the meet, and some competed in a long course pool for the first time.

Cassidy Drown, 8, and Lecya Santiago, 11, clocked PRs in all of their events and were named NWAC’s Most Improved Swimmers of the Meet by Taylor.

Noteworthy personal best performances were set by Ava Davis, 8 (51.4), Cole Davis, 10 (45.13), and Colin Diamond, 11 (41.45), in the 50-meter freestyle; Caitlin Dennen, 12, in the 50 backstroke (41.38); and Diandra Dominguez, 13, in the 200 breaststroke (3:52.65).

Grace Chargualaf, 13 (100 free, 1:20.52), and Leylah Dominguez, 10 (50 free, 41.84), shared the NWAC Fast Swim of the Meet award.

Previous qualifiers Haley Borja, 9 (100 free, 1:18.01); Jasmine Borja, 11 (50 back, 40.49); and Lola Chargualaf, 10 (50 butterfly, 39.74) all added new events for the PNS Long Course Championships.

Lola Chargualaf, who picked up a first, second and third in the meet, was named NWAC Swimmer of the Meet.

Haley Borja was first in the 100 free and fifth in the 100 back.

Jasmine Borja, Grace Chargualaf, Cole Davis, Leylah Dominguez, Drown and Santiago all recorded at least one top-10 finish.
