Britney Fortner was standing in her kitchen doing dishes when she heard a loud noise that shook her house in Oak Harbor Friday.

“I thought maybe it was an earthquake or something,” she said.

It wasn’t until she stepped outside that she discovered the source of the noise.

A car belonging to her neighbor was resting in her front yard after it struck the front of her house, shattering a living room window.

The driver, an elderly woman who lives across the street, had backed out of her driveway and continued in reverse across the street, over shrubs and into the home belonging to James and Britney Fortner.

The driver was injured and taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred at SW Kittitas Court.

The Oak Harbor fire and police departments responded. Firefighters used plywood to board up the window.

The force of the impact crumpled the rear of the Chrysler sedan and broke out the back window.

The house didn’t appear to have any structural damage, James Fortner said.
