Student musicians win top awards

Students part of the South Whidbey High School Wind Ensemble and the South Whidbey Middle School Symphonic Band recently won big at two different events.

The South Whidbey High School Wind Ensemble, which consists of 30 students, traveled to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on June 3 and competed in the Music in the Parks Festival. The high school band won first place in the single A division and placed second for all high school bands overall.

The South Whidbey Middle School Symphonic Band, which has 40 students, also participated in the Music in the Parks Festival. On May 27, the band won first place in single A division middle schools, as well as best middle school band overall.
