Letter: Menacing sign not welcome on island

Published 1:30 am Saturday, March 5, 2022

Editor,

I’ve never written a letter like this, but after what I saw today I was compelled to write. My wife and I go for a walk almost everyday down Millman Road in Freeland. We pass by a property that has two beautiful horses. Occasionally, we will stop just to say hi to them. Today, as I walked by the property there was a sign that read “No Trespassing. I have firearms and a tractor.” Wow. So, if I was to step on to this neanderthal’s property, he will murder me and then bury me with his tractor.

We moved to this island years ago for its beauty and to escape the jaded, angry tone that exists in more urban areas. The past five years seem to have made many of my neighbors more jaded, angry and (under the veil of I’m a “real” American ) further distanced themselves from our supposed welcoming community.

Maybe someone will convince this pathetic little human being to replace his murder pledge with something a little more “American,” like “Property has surveillance cameras” or simply “No Trespassing” if he really feels compelled to post signs. Otherwise, my hope is that he moves to northern Idaho or Alaska.
