The driver of a Ford Windstar minivan was airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett after she crashed into a tree on Race Road Sunday afternoon. The other passenger in the car sustained a few small cuts.

One woman was airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett after she was injured in a car accident on Race Road in Coupeville Sunday, but her passenger made it through mostly unscathed.

Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue personnel received a call at 4:23 p.m. of a single-car crash into a tree on Race Road and Shangri-La Circle. Anastasia Drake, 20, said her mother, LaCinda Drake, 40, was driving the posted speed limit in her Ford Windstar minivan during a trip to a friend’s house and some errands.

“The next thing I saw was we were going down a slight hill and crashed into a tree,” Drake said.

Drake received some small cuts across her chest where her seatbelt crossed her body. Her mother, however, suffered a broken left leg and a few cracked ribs. After emergency personnel freed her from the vehicle, she was flown to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

Drake has set up a GoFundMe to help her family with the cost of getting a new van which can be found at the following link: bit.ly/3CvoLux.

“We’ve had a few people come by to help us, but plenty of people have offered to help in any way they can,” Drake said.
