Oregon child sex abuse suspect nabbed in Clinton

Deputies with the Island County Sheriff’s Office assisted Oregon authorities in the arrest of a suspect accused of crimes related to child sexual abuse.

Last week, the sheriff’s office in Jackson County, Oregon reported an hours-long sweep in which eight men were arrested on a combined 71 counts of felony encouraging child sexual abuse. The operation was conducted across the Rogue Valley by the South Oregon Child Exploitation Team and the Oregon Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

As part of the operation, Jeremy Paul Maeder, 31, of Talent, Oregon was arrested by the Island County Sheriff’s Office on Conrad Street in Clinton. He is facing seven charges of encouraging child abuse in the first degree.

According to the complaint for extradition hold filed in the Island County Superior Court, Maeder was arrested after having fled from justice or having broken the terms of bail, probation or parole.

Maeder appeared in court Aug. 6 and agreed to a waiver of extradition. Judge Carolyn Cliff ordered him held without bail.
