Letter: Questioning Pride Month recognition

Editor,

I gotta give it to Fred Wilfert again for the fine letter he wrote the other day to the Whidbey News Times. Telling just like it is, albeit at the risk of raising liberal ire and wrath. Oh well, if some of these sensitive folks will get offended, that’s too bad. They get offended for anything they don’t agree with.

Now here’s my caveat. I don’t have any beef with any gay folks. I have worked for two gay fellows when I worked for the state of California and we got along just fine. My wife and I got invited to have tea and I must say this guy was so clean and tidy, one could eat off the floor. The other boss would visit our house and bring his boyfriend. Also, my granddaughter Olivia is a lesbian and I love her dearly; out of my five grandkids, she is the closest to me.

I don’t see what the hoopla is about having a whole month to celebrate gay Pride. I really don’t care, let them celebrate all they want, not hurting anybody by doing so. But why paint on public crosswalks? Why not celebrate Black history month by painting the crosswalk a certain form? Why insist that City Hall fly the Pride flags for a whole month? I got a gray idea: Let’s paint that same crosswalk red, white and blue for July? Especially this year being the 250th anniversary of this great country. I guess I better not hold my breath on that one.

Anyway, I see Coupeville going out of their way for the gay folks but nobody else. Why are these people so special? Like someone once said, “These people don’t want equal treatment; they want preferential treatment.” I see that is what’s happening here.

Now I expect an onslaught coming my way from the “tolerant left.” But that’s all good. I got broad shoulders. I dig it. I get it. The left can’t stand differences of opinion. Too bad. That’s on them.
