Letter: Preserving rural character essential

Editor,
I am a strong and lifelong supporter of affordable housing and feel it is urgently needed on Whidbey Island.
I also suggest that equal effort be made to secure green spaces, parks, walking paths and shoreline access in our towns.
These provide animal habitats, climate change security, water retention, and health benefits. They add immensely to the quality of our life and livability factor here — important for both local citizens and visitors.
As we build and grow, let’s remember to protect these areas. Let’s preserve the rural quality of our towns now and for future generations.
