The Coupeville High School track and field team’s first home meet of the season was a big success.

The boys won first place at the March 22 event with 219 points, more than double runner-up Mount Vernon Christian’s score.

The girls took second place with 184 points to the Mount Vernon Christian girls’ 223. No other teams were within 100 points of the top two. Seven schools total took part in the meet.

Individual Coupeville athletes took home 11 first place finishes. Lyla Stuurmans won the 400 meter run, Claire Mayne won the 100 meter hurdles, Carolyn Lhamon won the shot put, Katie Marti won the javelin throw, Ryanne Knoblich won the girls’ high jump, Zac Tackett won the discuss throw, Mitchell Hall won the 1600 meter run, Nick Guay won the boys’ high jump and Aidan Wilson won the 400 meter run and the triple jump. Hall, Guay and Wilson along with Hank Milnes won the four by 400 meter relay race.

The Wolves also earned a whopping 90 personal records throughout the meet.

“Ninety PRs is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport,” Coach Elizabeth Bitting wrote in an email.

The Coupeville track team currently has its largest roster since the early 2000s.
