Man accused of domestic violence

A man with a history of domestic violence is accused of bashing a woman’s head against the corner of a cabinet in an Oak Harbor home, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Casey A. Mesplie, 38, of Mount Vernon, in Island County Superior Court July 30 with assault in the second degree and violation of a court order. Both were charged as being domestic-violence related.

Oak Harbor police responded to a report of an assault at a home July 1. A woman reported that her boyfriend, Casey Mesplie, got upset when she asked him to sleep in his truck and pushed her to the floor, the police report states.

She went into a bathroom to get away from him, but he pushed his way in. He grabbed her head and “began banging it against the corner of the cabinet several times,” the report states.

The woman suffered a serious laceration across her left eyebrow and on the top of her head. She went to the hospital and got stitches.

The woman’s children were home at the time of the assault.

The report states that there was a domestic violence no-contact order barring Mesplie from contacting her or being within 1,000 feet of her home. Also, Mesplie was wanted by the Anacortes police for failing to appear for a court hearing in another domestic-abuse case in which he was accused of assaulting the woman.

If convicted of the charge, Mesplie could face more than a year in prison under the standard sentencing range.
