Conlisk shines as Wolves place 4th at district meet / Track

The 1A District 1 track meet Thursday and Saturday, May 9 and 11, at Lynden Christian turned into the Danny Conlisk show for Coupeville High School.

While the Wolves placed fourth in both the boys and girls team standings, Conlisk dominated the individual results.

Conlisk was part of four winning events, set one new school record and nearly broke two others.

Thursday, Conlisk and teammate Jean Lund Olsen each trimmed the previous CHS 100-meter record while finishing 1-2 in the event. Conlisk crossed the finish line in 11.04 and Lund Olsen in 11.06, breaking Jacob Smith’s mark of 11.12 set last spring.

Conlisk and Lund Olsen then joined Tiger Johnston and Sean Toomey-Stout to win the 4×100 relay in 44.16, just .02 off the school record set in 1986.

Later in the day, Conlisk captured the 400 in 51.18.

Saturday, Conlisk collected his fourth blue ribbon, winning the 200 in 22.46, a mere .05 seconds off Smith’s school record of 22.41.

Conlisk wasn’t the only Coupeville runner to set a new 100 record Thursday. Maya Toomey-Stout broke the girls standard in the event, finishing third at district in 12.84. Janiece Jenkins held the previous school record of 12.89 set in 2005.

Conlisk’s wins were the only firsts for the Coupeville boys at district.

The Coupeville girls collected only one win. Emma Smith captured the shot put in 34-05. She was also fifth in the discus (92-08).

Boys

Meridian won the district boys title with 133 points; Coupeville finished with 84.

Lund Olsen, in addition to finishing second to Conlisk in the 100, took second in the 200 (22.69).

Sean Toomey-Stout was second in the long jump (20-09.5) and fifth in the triple jump (38-08).

Others placing for the Wolves were Koa Davisson (fourth, high jump, 5-08), Ryan Labrador (fifth, shot put, 42-04.5), Logan Martin (seventh, discus, 121-11) and Jakobi Baumann (eighth, 110 hurdles, 18.14).

Girls

King’s was the girls champion with 154.5 points; Coupeville tallied 81.

Lindsey Roberts was second in the 100 hurdles (15.5) and on two relay teams. She joined Maya Toomey-Stout, Ja’Tarya Hoskins and Mallory Kortuem in the 4×100 (50.99) and Toomey-Stout, Kortuem and Ja’Kenya Hoskins in the 4×200 (1:47.4).

Roberts was also sixth in the high jump (4-10).

Toomey-Stout added a third in the long jump (16-01.5), and Kortuem was third in the 400 (1:01.78) and fourth in the pole vault (8-06).

Ja’Kenya Hoskins finished fifth in in the long jump (15-06.5) and sixth in both the 100 (13.73) and 200 (28.54).

Ja’Tarya Hoskins placed sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.93) and fifth in the 4×400 (5:19.69) with Lucy Sandahl, Alana Mihill and Catherine Lhamon.

Bi-District

Coupeville hosts the bi-district meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18.

The top four finishers from the District 1 meet and the top three finishers from the District 2 meet automatically qualified for bi-district. The next best nine marks from the two meets will fill out the field in each event.
