Rummel’s blast helps Oak Harbor beat Getchell / Baseball

Propelled by Taylor Rummel’s first-inning home run and a big sixth inning, the Oak Harbor High School baseball team tipped visiting Marysville-Getchell 10-6 Friday, March 29.
The win enabled the Wildcats to win the series 2-1 and helped Oak Harbor even its conference record to 2-2 and its overall mark to 3-3. Getchell fell to 2-5 (3-6).
The Wildcats face Everett (3-3, 5-3) in a three-game series this week. The teams play in Oak Harbor at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, and Friday, April 5, and at Getchell Wednesday.

Rummel followed a single by Donny Kloewer with a blast over the right-field fence to ignite the Oak Harbor offense in the opening inning.
The Chargers, however, struck for three runs in the top of the sixth to eventually knot the score at 6-6.
Oak Harbor responded by plating four runs in its half of the inning. Thomas Anderson began the rally with a single, then Austin Boesch and Noah Meffert bunted for base hits to load the bases. Kloewer walked to force in one run, and Rummel followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Boesch.
Aiden McCarthy drove in the final two runs with a single.
In the second, Aaron Martinez reached on an error and scored on Joe Dixon’s base hit.
Getchell scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to tie the game at 3.
Oak Harbor regained the led with two runs in the bottom of the inning with two outs. Caleb Fitzgerald singled, Boesch doubled and Meffert walked to load the bases. Kloewer plated two with a base hit.
The Wildcats tacked on a run in the fifth. McCarthy singled and was replaced by courtesy runner Kyto Morrow. After Dixon moved Morrow to second, Morrow scored on Martinez’s double.
Kloewer finished the day 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. McCarthy had two hits and two RBI, and Boesch had two hits and two runs.
Rummel homered, Martinez doubled and Meffert, Dixon, Fitzgerald and Anderson all singled.
Boesch pitched the first five innings, giving up seven hits and six runs while striking out four. Only one run was earned; Oak Harbor committed four errors.
Meffert earned the save with two hits and four strikeouts over the final two innings.
