Victoria Jane Hemner: Jan. 27, 1948-Nov. 17, 2017

On Nov. 17, 2017, Victoria Jane Hemner passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father. Vicki was born Jan. 27, 1948 in Eau Claire, Wis., to Fred and Charlotte Anderson, who preceded her in death.

Vicki graduated in 1966 from North High in Eau Claire. She attended Chippewa Valley Technical College and studied both computer science and nursing.

Vicki’s career included driving school bus for the Eau Claire Area School District for more than 10 years. She then joined the IRS and worked in both the Eau Claire and Seattle offices for 22 years before retiring.

Vicki met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) Hemner in 1963 and they married on Jan. 16, 1971. During their 46 years together, they lived in Eleva, Wis., Eau Claire, Wis., Everett and Oak Harbor.

Vicki was a voracious reader. Although allergic to cats, she volunteered at the Noah Animal Shelter.

Her passion for card making resulted in the design and creation of mini works of art enjoyed by family and friends. This included making the wedding invitation for her niece Leigha. Vicki will be deeply missed by her card-making circle of friends at the Collage Card shop in Oak Harbor.

Survivors include her husband Gene, brother Fred (Renae) Anderson Stillwater Minn., nieces Karah Anderson, Fargo N.D., Leigha (Matt) Barta, Andover, Minn., Brother-in-law Rodney (Dawn) Hemner, Bloomington, Ill., and longtime friends Frank and Cheryl Akey (over 50 years) Chippewa Falls, Wis. and Carroll and John Winkler (25 years) Ferndale, Wash., along with other close and much-loved family and friends.

There will be a gathering of friends and family at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27 at Wallin Funeral Home in Oak Harbor. Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville.

Enjoying the beauty of the setting sun was one of Vicki’s favorite pastimes, and they will be a lasting reminder of a very special lady who graced our lives with her kindness and extraordinary generosity.
