A fire destroyed a camper trailer on Smugglers Cove Road around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The owner of the trailer was away and no one was inside when the fire started, according to Ed Hartin, fire chief with Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters were able to quickly respond because they happened to be at the fire station in Greenbank at the time of the call, said Hartin. Three engines, two water tenders and the bush rig responded, and it took about 20 minutes to completely extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire and the primary use of the trailer were still unclear on Sunday night.
