Navy supporters should show up at meetings too | Letter

Editor,
Your article on Jan. 13, “COER speaks at county about jet noise,” had a gross inaccuracy. The statement, “No one spoke on the Navy’s behalf or in favor of continuing the exercises” is incorrect.
I wore a long-sleeved shirt clearly showing support for the EA-18G Growler, praised field carrier landing practice at OLF Coupeville for defending the United States Constitution and mentioned I gathered 1,626 signatures for a pro-OLF petition that also called for mitigation. I hope your newspaper can please correct the error.
Oh, and one last thing, because I can’t help myself, some people say they support the troops. I show up in a room full of hostile COER members and fight for that support with honor.
Perhaps if folks valued the Navy presence they would show up and testify to the Island County Commissioners, plus Coupeville town leaders, instead of wallowing in complacency.
