LaRaine Schlatter

LaRaine Frances Schlatter died Dec. 22, 2015 in Monroe, Wash. at the age of 94. She was born March 11, 1921 in Jackson, Calif. to Juan Jose Aparicio, her Spanish father, and Julia Cananicia Aparicio, her Swiss mother. LaRaine was raised in Clinton, Calif., Jackson Gate and Kennedy, Calif., all located in the mountains, southeast of Sacramento. Her father worked in the gold mines of California.

Following graduation from high school, LaRaine worked in personnel at Joshua Hand Iron Works in Sunnyvale, Calif. where they manufactured turbines for the U.S. Navy. She met Robert Schlatter, Jr., also known as “Shorty,” a young sailor stationed at Moffitt Field, Calif. LaRaine and Robert were married in Sunnyvale on Feb. 25, 1945.

She followed Robert’s Navy career, finally settling in Oak Harbor and became a permanent resident of Penn Cove Park in 1959. LaRaine was a volunteer for the blood drives for many years, worked as a volunteer at the polling stations and was a Life Member of the Oak Harbor Senior Center and a member of the Skagit Old Car Club.

LaRaine is survived by one son, Robert W. Schlatter of Monroe, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Schlatter, Jr.

LaRaine requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family interment.
