Lucille Marie Kahoun
Published December 7, 2015
Oscar and Jean Gilbo brought this beautiful baby into the world and named her Lucille Marie. She grew up in Tacoma along with older half brother, Herald, half sisters Bonnie, Beatrice and younger brother Gordon. She attended Stadium High School and became a supervisor at the Pacific Match Manufacturing plant at the age of 19.
In 1947, Air Force 1st Lt. Edward J. Kahoun spotted her at a night club and asked for a dance. They were married at the McChord Air Force Base Chapel on July 20, 1948.
Shortly after that Ed was ordered to Goose Bay, Labrador. They spent two winters there.
They returned to Tacoma in the spring of 1950. Dale Edward was born in August that same year. They built a house and planned to remain there. Gregory Alan was born in 1957, also in August.
In 1962, Ed’s job with the Federal Aviation Administration took the Kahoun family to Crescent City, Calif.
They moved again in 1967 to Ukiah, Calif.
By the time Ed retired in 1979, both boys were out on their own.
This remarkable woman held everything together when there were as many as three different guys working on three different work shifts operating out of their home.
The summer heat in Ukiah was unbearable so Lucille and Ed moved immediately to the Northgate Terrace Community on Whidbey Island and lived there ever since.
One of the first things they did after moving to Whidbey Island was buy a boat. Lucille enjoyed fishing and visiting the islands around here. She also enjoyed traveling, exploring and camping in their vacation trailer. They covered most of the western states.
Survivors are Lucille’s husband, Ed; son Dale (Annette), a retired police officer; Gregory (Sally), a semi-retired electrical contractor, who has two grown sons Casey and Christopher. Casey has a daughter, Olivia.
All of Lucille’s siblings have predeceased her. Everyone who knew Lucille loved her.
There will be a celebration of Lucille’s life after the holidays.
