James E. Blythe Jr., 75, of Oak Harbor, passed away Friday April 12, 2013 at Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville. He was born May 31, 1937 in Lexington, Kentucky to James Elder Blythe Sr. and Harriet Elizabeth Bryant. He was married from 1957 to 1980 to Myrtle Gloria Burchel and to Ardella L. Harvey since November 19, 1981. James earned his associates degree and also served in the United States Navy from 1955 until 1975 and served during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, he spent 16 years working for the Navy Resale Vending Department at NAS Whidbey Island. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and poker.

He is survived by his wife, Ardella L. Blythe; children, James III, Antonette, Rozita, Darlene (Mark), Quintin (Jody), Victor (Amy), Ocie (Kevin), Thomas (Joanie), Tracey (Johnie Wayne), Bonnie (Bobby) Patrick (Beth Ann), Valorie (Derick), John (Melissa), Chloe and Sylvanie; thirty four grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, one brother and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a daughter, Karen.

We wish to thank the Oak Harbor paramedic teams, the ER and CCU teams of Whidbey General Hospital for their caring and excellent care during the duration of James’ stay.

An open house celebration of life will be held on April 20, 2013 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at 446 NW Dory Drive in Oak Harbor. All friends and family are welcome.
