William H. Shelton

William Harrel “Bill” Shelton, age 71, died at his home in Oak Harbor on April 10, 2013. He was born in Bradley, Arkansas to Lee and Lue Icy Shelton. After high School, Bill entered the U.S. Navy a career that lasted more than 30 years. Bill’s service was exemplary. Among his awards were the Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Campaign Medal (2), Air Medal (6), Gallantry Cross, Navy “E” Ribbon (2), Navy Commendation Medal (2) and Meritorious Unit (3). He retired in May of 1990 as an AVCM (E-9). He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the A-3 Skywarrior Association, Nor’westers RV Club and a former member of Oak Harbor Yacht Club for 20 years.
Following retirement, Bill was not one to sit at home. He founded his own contracting service Repair Masters, which he operated for the next ten years. He worked for business owners, property management firms and individual home owners, doing home modifications, building maintenance and
repairs.
Bill is survived by his wife Roberta, at the family home, by five children: Victoria Barney (Tom) of Princeton, TX, Suzanne Nelson (Troy) of Ennis, TX, Steve Kunze (Molly) of Bothell, WA, Ken Kunze (Delilah) of Anacortes, and Doug Kunze (Andrea) of Oak Harbor. Two brothers Robert and Ed Shelton, both of Odessa, TX, 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. Bill requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held. Burial at sea under the auspices of the U.S. Navy will follow.
