Josef “Joe” Bryston, beloved husband of Irma, passed away April 18, 2011, at Whidbey General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Irma, son Robert (Jennifer) Bystron, daughter Angela (Derrick) Huber, grandson Steven Huber, step-granddaughters Crystal (Peter) Allarde, Kayla Huber, and step great-grandchildren Jaden and Jordyn Allarde, sister-in-law Julie Bystron, nephew Peter (Karin) Bystron, sister-in-law Erika Bystron, Germany, brothers-in-law Johann (Hilde) Staber, Klaus (Ilse) Staber, sister-in-law Roswitha (Michael) Strauss and numerous nieces and nephews in Austria.

Joe was born in Warschowitz, Germany on August 10, 1932, to Anna and Josef Bystron. At the age of 6, Joe, his parents and two brothers moved to Geislingen Steige, Germany. There he attended school and completed his apprenticeship in Steam and Pipefitting at local WMF. At the age of 19 he immigrated to Canada where he worked three years in logging camps. He then moved to Vancouver, B.C., and returned to his trade in steam and pipefitting.

In 1960 Joe met his wife Irma. In 1962 they were married and moved to Renton where they raised their children, Robert and Angela.

Joe worked in the shipyards, was involved in numerous Seattle building projects including the Airport Transit, and also the Alaska Pipeline. He retired out of Local 32 in 1994. Joe and Irma then moved to their retirement home on Whidbey Island. Joe enjoyed retirement to the fullest: skiing, camping, fishing, crabbing, clamming, and his special hobby of flying model airplanes.

Joe will be missed by all of his family, relatives and many friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 6, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18341 SR 525, Freeland.
