Gerold Everett Atwood

Gerold Everett Atwood, 81, died Oct. 28, 2011, in Spokane. He was born in Sandy, Utah, on May 5, 1930 to Everett H. and Ida L. (Gibson) Atwood. He was raised in the area of Emigration Canyon, Utah. He left home and found his way to California where he found work as a carpenter. With the start of the Korean War, Gerold found himself in the U.S. Army.

Following Korea, Gerold returned to California and the San Francisco Bay area and soon he was married to Ella Mae Tallman. From this marriage, three children were born. In 1967, the Atwood family moved to Oak Harbor where Gerold worked in construction, building barracks at NAS Whidbey Island.

Gerold eventually formed his own construction company in 1977, specializing in pole buildings and fencing. Ella Mae died in 1995 and in 2002, Gerold moved to Republic, Wash. He purchased property and, along with son Everett, built a home.

Gerold was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving with the branch in Republic. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. For many years he was also a Boy Scout leader.

Gerold is survived by three children, Everett of Republic, Aaron and wife Kellly of Oak Harbor and Jodi Linson and husband Ed of Tonasket, Wash.; by three sisters, Ida Hogan, Evelyn, and Eleanor Roberts and husband Jim. Thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Oak Harbor, with Bishop Mark Soptich officiating. Burial was held at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
