William H. Wever

William H. Wever, 71, of Oak Harbor, passed away Dec. 30, 2010, at Island Hospital in Anacortes.
Mr. Wever was born, one of a set of twins, on the family farm in Carroll County, Iowa, on Feb. 14, 1939, to Blaine and Lorna (Rogers) Wever. He graduated from high school in Ralston-Glidden, Iowa, and entered the US Navy in 1956, serving one tour. On Aug. 14, 1960, Bill married Phyllis Dawson in Ralston, Iowa. In 1962, the couple moved to San Fernando, Calif. They later moved back to Ralston for several years, and in 2004 they moved to Oak Harbor. Bill had been employed for 23 years by General Telephone (later Verizon), starting as a lineman, and working his way up into management. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hanging out with family and friends.
Bill is survived by his wife, Phyllis, at home in Oak Harbor; three children, Virginia Scheef (Joseph) of Oak Harbor, Victoria Rodriguez of Sylmar, Calif., and Virgil Wever of Valencia, Calif.; seven grandchildren; sisters Darlene Linn and (twin) Betty Smith (Bill), both of Webster City, Iowa, Alyce Hunt (Max) of Decatur, Iowa, and Elaine Harlow (Richard) of Montrose, Iowa; and brother, Edward Wever (Rosemary) of Panorama City, Calif. Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, James (1972) and Virgil Dean (in infancy) and by a sister Melva Barbee.
In keeping with his wishes, no local service will be held. Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the assistance of Whidbey Memorial Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc.
