Published April 19, 2008

Daisy Ruth Brothers passed away peacefully April 19, 2008 at age 94. Daisy was born in Garber, Okla., in a covered wagon, the fifth child of Charles and Flossie Thompson.

Daisy married Clifford Kimball in Oklahoma in 1932. In 1935, during the dust bowl, they moved to North Bend, Wash. Daisy moved to Renton in 1943 and her husband died the following year.

In 1950 Daisy moved to Kent where she bought a small farm. In 1993 she moved to Seattle to be closer to family members. She moved again in 2002 to Oak Harbor.

Early in the second world war, Daisy went to work for Boeing working in many different capacities (including a few weeks as a “Rosie the Riveter”). Just shy of the 20-year mark she left and went to work for Northwest Sheet Metal where she worked until retirement. After retirement Daisy returned to work, this time for a dry-cleaning establishment. Perhaps she was attracted by the name of the establishment: “Daisy’s Cleaners.”

Daisy was a very independent woman with a wonderful sense of humor. Her family was very important to her and she always loved get-togethers. She was a very active member of her church. Her hobbies included writing poetry, gardening, raising animals, and singing.

Daisy was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Survivors include children Thomas Kimball of Chehalis and Viola Kimball Webb of Oak Harbor; grandchildren Vanessa Caveny of Oak Harbor, Anthony Howell and Bruce Kimball, both of Seattle, Crystal Webb-Short of Bellevue, Clifford Webb of Oak Harbor, and Jessica Webb of San Diego; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Oak Harbor Church of Christ on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. Memorials have been suggested to the Lewy Body Dementia Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel of Oak Harbor.
