Raymond H. Meadors

Raymond H. Meadors, 84, of Coupeville, was called to be with his Lord and Saviour in the company of his family on Oct. 15, 2007, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Katherine; daughters, Sharon Purvis, Karen Davidson, Mary Jean Young and Kathy Blouin; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ray was born in Fort Lewis, Wash., and moved to Fort Casey (Coupeville) in 1929 where he lived for the duration of his life. He graduated Coupeville High School in 1941, joined the United States Navy and served from December 1941 to December 1946 as a Gunner’s Mate 1st Class aboard the USS Tennessee. He married Katherine Doll in Philadelphia in 1946 and moved back to Coupeville.
Ray retired as a civilian firefighter at the rank of captain from NAS Whidbey after 25 years of service. He served the town of Coupeville as a volunteer firefighter for several years, was a member of the Civic Club as well as a Town Council member. He was an auto mechanic for over 30 years for various businesses in Coupeville, Oak Harbor and Anacortes. Ray was also a member of the Coupeville Community Bible Church.
His father, Master Sgt. Lewis B. Meadors, mother Loretta Taylor Meadors, brothers Lewis, Paul and Fred all preceded him.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Burley’s Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor. Graveside services will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville, and then a reception at Coupeville Community Bible Church.
