Christine Elazar

Christine Elazar began her earthly life on April 9, 1958, in San Diego, as the third daughter born to Bob and Vivian Jones. She died Oct. 12, 2007, at her Oak Harbor home.
When she was 4 years old she moved with her family to Wrightwood, Calif., and seven years later to Orange County, Calif., where she spent her teenage years. She came to Whidbey Island in 1995. A marriage here ended in divorce. Christine never remarried.
She enjoyed her career as a massage therapist. Her place of business was located first in Langley, then Coupeville, and in later years, Oak Harbor. Shortly before her illness returned in 2005 she had also begun teaching part-time at the Christian School along with maintaining her massage therapy office.
Her love for little children found an outlet and fulfillment there along with teaching her Sunday school class at Calvary Chapel.
Christine was outgoing and never lacked for friends. The last nine years of her life revealed a deep love for God and her life reflected that love and service for Him. She was deeply touched, humbled and in awe of the love and support of the whole community that was poured out on her and her family during the years of her illness. It never ceased to bring her to tears when she sought to express her gratitude for all of it.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Jones, in 1991; and survived by her mother, Vivian Jones. Other survivors include her sister Cherie Hardy and brother-in-law Frank Hardy of Oak Harbor; her sister Sonja Meier and brother-in-law Gary Meier of West Hills, Calif; a nephew, Jason Meier of California; two nieces, Heather Schafer of Kansas, and Ruth Meier of California.
Christine leaves us with a shining example of how to live a life as an expression of faith in God’s grace and strength during times of joy and during times of sorrow; times of good health and times of suffering. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but those who knew her rejoice that she’s now in the presence of the God she loves.
A memorial service was held Oct. 18 at Oak Harbor Calvary Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Christine Elazar to Calvary Chapel Bible College, 39407 Murrieta Hot Springs Road, Murrieta, CA 92563.
