White Edward A.

Published October 5, 2007

Edward A. White passed away Oct. 5, 2007, in Temecula, Calif., at the age of 85. He was born in Los Angeles on July 12, 1922. He was raised in the Los Angeles area. Ed joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, where he served as a fighter pilot during World War II and the Korean War and retired as a Commander (O-5) in 1964.

Ed returned to Southern California and in 1965, began a second career in real estate sales and also as a yacht broker in Newport Beach. Twenty-four years later, he retired for the second time.

Ed ventured to Grants Pass, Ore., building a retirement home. The climate of Oregon did not agree with his allergies and he continued north, settling in Oak Harbor. Ed built two different homes here in Oak Harbor, one near Polnell Point and the other on 10 acres on Crescent Harbor. Building homes became a new love for Ed as well as cruising the San Juan Islands. In November of 2005, Ed moved to Temecula, Calif.

Ed is survived by his wife Laverne of Temecula and two sons, Greg White and Gary White, both of Oak Harbor. One stepson Greg Melvin, one stepdaughter Pam Aielli, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and his only brother Richard White of Danville, Calif., also survive.

Memorial services for Ed White will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1:30 p.m. at Family Bible Church, Oak Harbor, with Pastor Ron Willis officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church.
