James O. ‘Pete’ Hulett

Pete Hulett, 85, died Dec. 2, 2006 at Careage of Whidbey after an extended illness. He was born March 28, 1921 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Leonard and Marie Hulett.

Pete grew up in the Aberdeen area, graduating from Weatherwax High School in 1939. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served during World War II in the European theater, making the landing at Omaha Beach. He then traveled through Europe with the Army and landed at Bremerhaven where he was a member of the crew on the Europa.

After his service in the Navy Pete went to work for Bell Systems, ultimately becoming a supervising engineer. He retired in 1980. He was an avid gardener, he loved the beach and he bowled in two leagues and was a lifetime member of the Elks Club.

In 1948 Pete married Joyce Mitchell in Aberdeen and together they raised two children.

Pete is survived by his wife, Joyce, at the family home along with his daughter Lorraine of Seattle and son Mike of Snohomish, along with grandchild Kelly.

A gathering of family and friends in Pete’s memory will be on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Elks Club.
