Lorraine D. Evans

Lorraine Evans, a former Whidbey Island resident, died peacefully on the morning of April 18, 2006 with the comfort of dear friends at Highline Medical Center. She was born June 1, 1938 to George and Anne Mack. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Batdorf (Robert); nephew, John, and niece, Anne; her numerous close friends and her cat, Dinah.

She was a unique person, having held many types of job throughout her life, including serving in the Army as a ballistic specialist during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Over the years, she owned a tavern in downtown Seattle, was a mechanical engineer for the aerospace deptartment of Boeing, was a watch repairman, a photographer’s assistant, auto mechanic, pharmacist technician, King County policewoman, gunsmith and gun dealer. Prior to her retirement, she was a nurse at the Seattle Veterans Medical Center, proudly serving her fellow veterans devotedly for 15 years.

She was an active member of the Rainier Combat rifle club, competing internationally and at one time she qualified for the U.S. Olympic Rifle team.

Her passions were her cars, collecting and shooting guns, her work with veterans and her friends. She was an independent spirit with a good heart, a fabulous sense of humor and she will be missed by more people than she would ever have believed.

Graveside services were June 8 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville.
